A farcical comedy that is too often forced instead of funny, the Australian feature Now Add Honey is about a suburban Melbourne family whose hidden flaws boil over once a famous relative is foisted upon them. The husband and wife team of Wayne Hope and Robyn Butler � here he directs, while she writes and stars � send up celebrity culture, but the film is like a Hollywood starlet: too thin and contrived.
The harried life of Caroline Morgan (Butler) and her husband Richard (Erik Thomson) falls to bits with the return of Caroline's sister Beth (Portia de Rossi), a Los Angeles narcissist whose 16-year-old daughter, Honey Halloway (Lucy Fry), is a tween film star about to graduate to pouting pop minx. When Beth's indiscretions catch up with her, Caroline has to take care of Honey, who is more used to an entourage than an aunt.
